DR Congo: Mineral Peace & The Doha-Swiss Framework
The conflict in Eastern DRC entered a major diplomatic phase this week. While the M23/AFC (Alliance Fleuve Congo) continues to hold strategic mining hubs, a rare breakthrough occurred in Montreux, Switzerland.
- The Swiss Breakthrough (April 17-19, 2026): Representatives from the DRC government and the AFC/M23 signed a protocol under the Doha Framework. The most immediate result: The 477 Prisoner Exchange.
- The Swap: 311 Congolese soldiers captured on the front line are to be released by M23, while the Kinshasa government will release 166 AFC-aligned prisoners.
